Welcome to Cycling Paradise
Welcome to the North East Victoria town of Bright. We are in true cycling paradise. There are National Championships quality MTB parks, incredible gravel riding and some of the biggest road cycling mountains in Australia.
We are here for the road and have a wonderful few days ahead. Lets kick off with a nice shakeout ride up to Tawonga Gap. We will take it easy today, as we have a bit of riding to do over the next few days. The climb from this side is challenging. Suitable changes in gradient make it difficult to be in the right gear at all times on this climb.
Once we reach the summit, check out the look out for a fantastic view of the Keiwa Valley and out towards Falls Creek. We roll back down the hill and along the valley to Bright. Grab a shower and a stretch, before we head down for our welcome dinner.
The Mighty Mt.Hotham
Today is or highest altitude of the camp. We will roll out of Bright and make for our first stop of the day at Harrietville. This is a great opportunity to warm up before we start todays climb. Today's climb is in three parts.
Once we lease Harrietville, we are straight into the climb. After some tough initial gradients, this ride settles in for a while. It is generally consistent, save for The Meg, which can catch you out if you are day dreaming. Don't forget to look back to the roads below to see how much distance you have covered already. Once we reach the False flat, don't go to hard.
Our last third of this ride has three climbs in the space of 8-10kms. These are tough because your legs are already burning. Take your time and make sure you get there and along for a coffee at the General. We return the way we have come. Take your time descending, before we return along the valley to get ourselves back to town.
Falls Creek awaits
Today we have a couple of great options on distance.
Our first and recommended option is a ride from our base in Bright. This ride will take us out of town over the climb of Tawonga Gap, to Mt. Beauty before we commence the climb up to Falls Creek. Our return will be by the same route in reverse. This is a 110km day.
Our second option is a drive to Mt.Beauty, where we will regroup with our first option group for the climb from Mt. Beauty to Falls Creek. Our return will be by the same route in reverse. This is a 60km day.
Either option you are going to love the Falls Creek climb.
Beautiful Mt.Buffalo
Our final ride of the camp is the most beautiful climb of Mt.Buffalo. Again we will have two options for our riders.
The first option is again a ride out of our base in Bright. We ride out through Porepunkah and head for the Mt.Buffalo National Park entrance. Once we reach the base we climb the road up to Mt.Buffalo Chalet. Its a beautiful ride with large granite rock formations, sprinkled with wild flowers and of course incredible views.
Our second option will be a car transfer to the base of the Mt.Buffal climb, where we will join the first option riders before we make our way up the climb to the Mt.Buffalo Chalet.
Either option we return the way we have come and this brings our camp to a close.
